Is Tally2AI really free?
Yes. Tally2AI is free for Tech Essentials members, including free members. Join the blog if needed, then sign in to Tally2AI with an email code. Your own Tally and compatible AI app may have separate fees. Begin with a sample company and check the answers.
What do I need to get started?
The Windows computer where you use Tally, your company open in Tally, a compatible AI desktop app, and access to your Tech Essentials membership email. The app sends you a sign-in code. Follow the setup guide; you do not need to write code.
Does my accounting data stay on my computer?
The bridge runs locally and talks to Tally on your computer. When you ask a connected AI app to read data, the returned data becomes available to that app and is subject to its own data policies. Bridge usage analytics exclude accounting payloads, company identifiers, prompts and credentials. See privacy details.
Can an AI app change my books?
Read-only access is the default. On My apps & permissions, choose Edit permissions to allow adding/editing or deleting/cancelling records for specific companies. The existing connection stays in place. Review the app’s work and begin with a test company. Disconnect app blocks future access but cannot undo changes already sent to Tally.
How often do I need to sign in?
Sign in with an email code when you first activate this computer. The initial allowance is two computers per member. The app checks membership again about once a day when you use it; it does not email a code for every question. Keep internet available for that check. Access lasts up to 24 hours after verification, and you may need a new code if verification cannot be completed.
Does Tally need to stay open?
Yes. Keep Tally and the company you want to ask about open on the same Windows computer. Tally2AI connects to that running copy. Closing Tally stops live access to your books.
Which AI apps can I connect?
My apps & permissions offers connections for supported ChatGPT/Codex desktop configurations and Claude Desktop. The app must support local connections under its plan and your organization’s policies. You use your own AI account; it is not included. This does not connect the ChatGPT website. See the AI app guide for compatibility and advanced options.
Is every Tally workflow supported?
No. Start with straightforward questions about ledgers, sales entries and stock. This early release has been checked on a sample TallyPrime company. Payroll, manufacturing, tax filing and older Tally versions need further testing. Always check an AI answer against Tally before making a financial decision.
Why might Windows show a publisher warning?
The current installers are not Authenticode signed. Windows or your organization may warn or block them. Follow your organization’s software policy. Signed update metadata and file checksums protect the updater path but do not provide a Windows publisher signature.
How do updates work?
Installed builds check the signed release feed. Open Updates to check manually and review the offered version. Installation needs your confirmation. If the feed is unavailable or fails verification, the existing local bridge can continue running.
Can I turn off usage analytics?
Yes. Open Settings → Privacy & analytics in Tally2AI and turn sharing off. If enabled after the setup notice is accepted, basic app usage and your verified membership email can be linked in PostHog (EU). Accounting records and sign-in codes are not included. What if a write times out?
Stop and check the original change before trying again: it may already have reached Tally. Ask your accountant or technical helper to review the operation record using our recovery guide. Repeating an uncertain change can create duplicate entries.
